Here are a few things you should know and what to expect when filing after the tax deadline. If you owe additional taxes, it is most beneficial to pay in full as timely as possible to avoid additional penalties and interest. There are options if you cannot pay, and the IRS will work with you to find a solution. What if you don't owe any additional tax? If you are due a refund there is little recourse for filing late. However, keep in mind that to receive a refund you must file within three years from the date the return is due or forfeit the full amount.

A tax advocate will be able to assist individuals with their tax returns.
