What is digital access and why does it matter?
Digital access refers to having access to various technologies that are common in today’s society, such as computers, smartphones (e.g., Apple and Samsung), and the internet. It also involves understanding how to use these technologies for activities like gaining knowledge, entertainment, or using platforms like Canvas for students. Digital access typically falls into three main categories: devices (smartphones, laptops), digital literacy, and affordable internet. It plays a crucial role in bridging the digital divide, offering individuals who might otherwise be disadvantaged a fair chance in the digital world. For instance, a student needing to submit homework online or someone paying bills or shopping online requires these basic digital skills. Without them, individuals would face significant challenges in navigating daily life in today’s digital age.
Why Community Action?
Community Action helps people in all 29 counties in Utah. There are 9 Community Action Agencies that do this work. In some parts of rural Utah, these agencies are the only some of the only ones that can help. They help people get jobs and take care of themselves. They also help with things like food, housing, paying bills, money advice, and Head Start. They don't just give out computers or teach money classes by themselves. They use these things to help families reach their goals.
